Adebyo strikes twice to give Hindustan win

When Birender Singh was sent off for punching Hindustan’s Musibhu Adebyo in the 63rd minute,it seemed an act of desperation on the Ahbab FC defender’s part — he had previously tried everything in vain to stop the Nigerian striker. It only added to Ahbab’s misery though as striker Adebyo went on to complete his brace,to give defending champions Hindustan FC a 2-0 victory in the DSA Senior Divison football match at the Ambedkar stadium on Monday.

After a goalless first half,Adebyo broke the shackles six minutes into the second with a superb burst of speed from the left flank. He charged to a ball from midfielder Nathan Oneyeka and dodged a couple of defenders to enter the box before slamming the ball past Ahbab custodian Sandeep from an acute angle.

After Ahbab were reduced to 10 men,Hindustan upped the ante but failed to convert the chances. In the 75th minute, winger Ajay Bartwal passed the ball to Monu on the right flank but the latter’s shot from outside the box was spectacularly saved by the goalkeeper.

Ahbab also created a few chances, and the closest they came to equalising was in the 79th minute as winger Samson’s thunderous shot from about 35 yards sailed inches above the bar. Two minutes later,Adebyo all but sealed the match when he netted home off an easy pass from Tuishim Mashangya. After this win,Hindustan top the chart with 20 points from eight matches while Ahbab have 10 points from the same number of games.

Gorkha held
Earlier, the Gorkha Heroes and Youngmen FC match ended in a goalless draw. Gorkha were led by former Mohun Bagan playmaker Rishi Kapoor and while their midfield created enough chances, the inexperienced attack let them down. In the 42nd minute,a corner kick by the Gorkha skipper found Vinayak, whose header was acrobatically saved by the Youngmen goalkeeper. The custodian was in the midst of the action again when he made a flying save off Gorkha’s Sourav Patra’s scorching shot in the 55th minute. The draw left the Gorkha Heroes with 15 points in seven matches while Youngmen have just eight points.
