Television actor Ashish Kapoor, who was arrested on charges of rape following a woman’s allegation of sexual assault, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Saturday, officials said. He underwent a medical potency test on Friday, at All India Institute Of Medical Sciences Delhi (AIIMS) Delhi. The result of the test is awaited.

Kapoor was arrested on September 2 in Pune, after being on the run from the police for three weeks. The latest development comes as police continue efforts to trace the victim’s mobile phone, which she claims was taken by the accused. The woman alleged that the actor sexually assaulted her inside a washroom during a house party in Civil Lines, Delhi, in the second week of August.

“We have searched the house where the party took place, Kapoor’s residence, a restaurant owned by Kapoor’s father, and other locations, but the victim’s mobile phone has not been found,” said officers.

According to the police, the last known location of the phone was in the Civil Lines area, where the alleged assault occurred.

Police added that Kapoor has not yet been taken back to Pune, and further investigation is underway.

According to the police, the victim had initially alleged that Kapoor, his friend who hosted the house party, and two unknown men had sexually assaulted her. She also claimed a woman had physically assaulted her.

Police said she later claimed it was only Kapoor who had raped her. “We are following legal procedures, and charges of gangrape will be converted to those of rape in due course”, officers said.

The woman also alleged that the incident was video-graphed, but police said their investigation so far has not yielded any video.

According to police, Kapoor met the woman on Instagram. He later invited her to a friend’s house for a party where the alleged incident took place.

On August 11, police said an FIR was registered against Kapoor, his friend, his friend’s wife, and two unknown men.

On August 18, police said the woman gave another statement alleging that it was Kapoor and his friend who raped her, and the woman hit her.

On August 21, Kapoor’s friend and his wife applied for anticipatory bail, which was granted. The victim was present during the hearing, though her submissions excluded the name of Kapoor’s friend.

Officers investigating the case stated that as per an analysis of CCTV footage and eyewitness statements, the victim and Kapoor entered the washroom during the party. When they didn’t come out for a while, his friend and other guests started knocking on the door.

Police said an argument broke out between the group, which continued till the gate of the society. The victim alleged it was here that Kapoor’s friend’s wife hit her.

Police said it was the wife who had made the PCR call.
