The death of a motorcycle rider, who was crushed by a speeding dumper, resulted in protesters obstructing traffic on the Sohna Road on Thursday morning.

After Ninder died on the spot and his brother Mahendra was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition, local residents set the dumper on fire and put up barricades on the road to stop traffic movement.

It was hours before the traffic movement returned to normal,as the agitating crowd demanded action against the errant driver, who fled the spot.

The protesters also did not allow the fire tender to douse the flames that had engulfed the dumper. Police said the dumper was loaded with stones.

Sources said the dumper was being driven at a high speed, and ran over the motorcycle in an attempt to over take it. Residents alleged rashly driven trucks often lead to accidents on the stretch. They claimed policemen take bribe to allow the trucks to ply on the stretch.

“I come here to buy milk every morning. (Speeding trucks) are an everyday feature here,” said Suresh,a local resident.

Police said traffic was diverted both from Palwal and Gurgaon side.
