A day after a 12-year-old boy died after falling off the second floor of his school building in Mayur Vihar, police is yet to ascertain if it was an accident or he was pushed.
The police conducted a site examination and also questioned the school authorities and students on Wednesday, even though the school remained shut for the day. Varun Jain was a student of Class VI at Rishabh Public School in Mayur Vihar-I.
DCP (East) Prabhakar said,The post-mortem reports are out and it suggests that multiple fractures on the head of the child led to his death. We are investigating the case in detail.
Investigating officials said that teachers had accompanied all the students to the main gate of the school to help them board their buses, but Varun rushed back to the building as he had forgotten his notebook.
Later, when it was found that the boy had fallen off the building,he was rushed to Jeevan Anmol Hospital. Police claimed that there was nobody else in the building except for the boy at the time of the incident.
While police said that the child must have tipped over the three-and-a-half foot railing and fallen,Jains relatives refuse to believe this possibility.
How could he have tripped on the railing and fallen off the building if he just went to get his notebook? asked Mohit,a cousin of Varun. He blamed lack of adequate security personnel at the school premises as one of the reasons behind Jains death.
Investigations revealed that two schoolgirls saw Varun
running up to his classroom. A case of negligence has been registered against the school
authorities.
