75 Delhi school teachers felicitated

The awards were supposed to be given by Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung, who could not attend the function due to health reasons, officials said.

Delhi Chief Secretary D M Spolia felicitated 75 Delhi school teachers, for their contribution in the field of education, at a state level Teachers’ Day function organised by the Directorate of Education, Delhi.

Congratulating the awardees, Spolia highlighted the importance of teachers in inculcating values in students. “It is not a question of imparting mere literacy skills any more. Today, the challenge before teachers is to prepare citizens for the future, who will have the ability to face challenges posed by  global competition and yet remain rooted to India.”

Principal Secretary (Education) Anindo Mazumdar presided over the function held at Thyagraj Stadium. Among the 75 awardees were 15 awards in the Sports-Yoga category and 12 awards for the teachers of schools being run by the local bodies.

Besides the state Awards, Ravinder Kumar, Principal of Shaheed Captain Sanjeev Dahiya Government Co-educational Sarvodaya School, Rohini and Lakshmi Kumari Singh, who teaches economics at Government Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya No 1, Shakti Nagar, have been selected from Delhi government schools for the national awards as well.
