On the run for six months after jumping parole, a convict serving a life sentence for the murder of a woman in 2021 was arrested by the Gurgaon Police in Delhi on Sunday. The convict, Subhash, originally from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, was nabbed by a joint team of officials from the Sector 40 Crime Branch and the Bhondsi Police Station, police said. According to jail records, Subhash was convicted in the murder case in 2022 and had been serving time at the Bhondsi District Jail since February 23 that year. He was released on parole on January 24 this year, but failed to surrender on April 5 as ordered. A case was registered against him at the Bhondsi Police Station under the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act. "Police investigations revealed that Subhash was evading arrest by frequently changing locations, hiding in Delhi and Tamil Nadu," a Gurgaon Police spokesperson said. After his arrest, the convict was produced before a court on Sunday and remanded to one-day police custody. Further investigation is underway. The murder case stemmed from a complaint filed by one Satish Kumar, a 32-year-old from Hathras, on February 19, 2021. Satish, a manual labourer, stated that he had married Preeti, 25, four years ago through a court marriage. Preeti, however, left him and began living with Subhash in Sikri village, Faridabad. After reconciling with Satish, Preeti invited him to Sikri, where he met both her and Subhash on February 17, 2021. The trio decided to move to Gurgaon and rented a room in Jalvihar Colony, Sector 46, on February 18 that year. On February 19, Satish left for work at 3 am. Upon returning at 5 pm, he found Preeti dead, with foam coming from her mouth, and Subhash and his belongings missing. Satish alleged that Subhash, motivated by a grudge over Preeti’s decision to live with Satish again, murdered her and fled, as per the FIR. Preeti was four months pregnant at the time, police said.
