With the use of VIP flashlights,the four intercepted loaded trucks travelling on highways and stole them after forcing the driver out,police said while announcing that the group had been arrested.
Police also claimed to have recovered Rs 1.25 crore worth of medicine and a truck,worth Rs 25 lakh,from their possession.
Sanjay (22),Sandeep (27),Suresh (23) and Sonu (20) were apprehended from Sultanpuri on Saturday evening while they were passing through the area, said B S Jaiswal,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).
According to police,the arrests came following investigations into a December 9 case registered in Haryana of a stolen truck. The truck was said to be carrying medicines.
The truck,police said,was robbed by the assailants who were travelling in an Innova and a Bolero car. They had looted the truck at gunpoint in Kurukshetra and dumped the driver in an isolated area after tying up his hands and legs.
A special team was constituted to investigate the case,which traced the truck to a location in Burari,where the vehicle was found abandoned. On December 17,our team received specific inputs that the gang was in the process of transporting the medicines from Narela to Haryana,and would pass through the Sultanpuri terminal, said Jaiswal.
During question,police said,the accused confessed to their crime and disclosed that they dumped the stolen material near Ghevra More near the Delhi border.
