22-year-old man found dead,family says killed for money

The family members of a 22-year-old man,who was found dead near his residence in Katwaria Sarai,protested outside the Vasant Vihar police station on Sunday.

The family members of a 22-year-old man,who was found dead near his residence in Katwaria Sarai,protested outside the Vasant Vihar police station on Sunday.

Police suspect Ankit Sharma’s death was an accident,but the family said he was murdered for money by his friends. The family placed Ankit’s body,handed over after autopsy,on the road and blocked traffic.

According to police,Ankit was living with his friends in Katwaria Sarai for the past 20 days. He was from Ballabhgarh in Haryana.

Police said Ankit was drunk and accidently fell from the sixth floor of the building around 4 am on Friday. The post-mortem report confirmed traces of alcohol in Ankit’s blood,police said.

Putting together the sequence of event,police said Ankit met a friend,Sunil,in Badarpur around 10.30 pm on Thursday and the two drank together.

“Around 3.30 am,Sunil left for his village in Ballabhgarh while Ankit returned to his friends’s flat. His friends were asleep and he must have gone to the terrace, from where he accidentally fell. We found his slippers and several cans of beer on the terrace,” an officer said.

Police said Ankit fell on a motorcycle parked below,before hitting the ground.

His family said Ankit had recently sold some property as he needed money. He received Rs 20 lakh in the land deal. They claimed that his friends found out about the money and called Ankit to Delhi on the pretext of getting him a job.

The family members claimed the two friends had a scuffle with Ankit and pushed him from the sixth floor of the building.

“We have received a complaint from Ankit’s family. A case under Section 304 (death by negligence) against unknown persons will be registered. We are waiting for the final autopsy and forensic reports,” a senior police officer said.
