21-year-old man held for killing stepmother

A 21-year-old man was arrested for murdering his 40-year-old stepmother in North Delhi’s Malka Ganj area on March 4.

A 21-year-old man was arrested for murdering his 40-year-old stepmother in North Delhi’s Malka Ganj area on March 4. The accused,identified as Shalu Usman,was nabbed from Kamla Nehru Park,Sabzi Mandi,on Tuesday.

According to police,Usman was angry with his stepmother Sahista for taking care of only her children and neglecting him and his polio-affected sister.

The cleaver Usman procured from a local meat shop for committing the crime and Rs 13,320 that he took from the cupboard in Sahista’s room have been recovered,police said.

Police said Sahista had sustained several injuries on the head. At the scene of crime,the police found the cupboard lying open and articles strewn about.

During questioning,police learnt that Sahista was the second wife of Nushrat,the father of Usman. Nushrat,who owns 11 TSRs,had three sons and a daughter with his first wife. Shalu Usman was the eldest of them.

Police said it was after the death of his first wife,Nushrat married Sahista and has a daughter and two sons with her.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) IB Rani said,“Usman’s ten-year-old sister is polio-afflicted. During interrogation,Usman told us that Sahista was always partial to her children and would not take care of him or his siblings.”

Fed up with this behaviour,police said,Usman hatched a plan to kill Sahista. On the day of the incident,following an argument with his stepmother,Usman procured a cleaver from a local meat shop and killed Sahista,police said.
