As many as 18 people sustained injuries after the DTC bus they were travelling in crashed into a pillar in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden Thursday, officers said.
DCP (West) Vichitra Veer said police received a PCR call regarding an accident of a DTC bus around 11.40am. On reaching the spot, police found that a bus had hit a pole on the side of the road and a total of 18 persons, including the driver and the conductor, were injured. Around 15 people were admitted at ESIC Hospital in Basai Darapur while three were admitted to DDU Hospital.
No fatal injuries were reported, said police. Officers said a fire brigade and a PCR van were made available on the spot for help or evacuation. The DCP said an FIR under applicable sections of the law has been registered, adding the bus was going from Sarai Kale Khan to Nangloi.
Said the DCP, “There is a height barrier at the starting point of Raja Garden flyover which the DTC buses are prohibited from crossing. As per the investigation so far, it was found that the driver, at first, was thinking of taking the bus through the flyover, but later he changed his plans, took a sudden left and met with an accident with a pillar.” Commenting on the injured persons, he said two got fractures and are under observation while a total of nine MLCs (medico-legal case) have been received so far.
