CCTV footage shows Shobhit exiting mall alone: Police

For 10 minutes,Shobhit lay on the ground,bleeding profusely. Teg Chand,the guard at the gate,was unable to figure out the iPhone.

“I was in the guard’s room when I heard a loud thud. When I looked out,I found a boy,well-dressed,swaying and falling every now and then,before finally hitting the barrier outside my room. I asked him who he was and what had happened. He was unable to speak. When I looked closely,I realised the boy was bleeding,” Teg Chand told police.

As Chand debated what to do next,Shobhit’s phone began ringing. “He managed to answer the call. He told us it was a girl’s voice at the other end. He informed her about the incident,and she made a call to the victim’s family,” a senior police officer said.

The phone rang a second time. This time it was Shobhit’s father. The guard told him Shobhit was lying at Gate No 3,C-5. The family arrived within minutes,their residence at C-6 just metres away. While the family rushed Modi to Fortis Hospital,the guard ran to the adjacent Gate No 2 where he used another guard’s phone to make the first PCR call,recorded at 9.50 pm.

Police sources said the CCTV footage from the DLF Promenade mall shows Modi entering the area with two girls around 4 pm. Afterwards,he is seen exiting the building alone.

“Whether he was pulled into a car by unidentified assailants and stabbed,or attacked while walking back to his house,a 15-minute walk from the mall,is yet to be ascertained,” the officer said.
