The Bangalore police have decided to approach gram and taluk panchayats in the border districts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh (AP) for help to nab the man who attacked a woman at an ATM in the city on November 19. The move comes after over 200 cops combing the region failed to even identify the suspect, let alone arrest him. The announcement of a Rs 5-lakh reward by the Bangalore police and Rs 2 lakh by the Andhra police for information on the attacker has not helped either. Nearly 50 per cent of cops camping in Andhra looking for the attacker have returned to Bangalore to plan a new strategy. The police have now decided to hold meetings at the offices of taluk panchayats in Madhugiri,Pavagada,Shira in Tumkur district and Gowribidanur,Bagepalli,Gudibande in Chikkaballapur. We hope to nab the attacker with the help of villagers. We have decided to hold meetings with gram and taluk panchayats. We have given them thousands of hand bills to distribute, a police officer said. The ATM attacker is suspected to be involved in many other crimes in the border region and is the prime suspect in a November 10 murder of a woman in Anantapur district of Andhra. Police sources in Bangalore said their AP counterparts were not cooperating after coming to know that the attacker is also involved in murder cases in that state.
