Pharma firm employee held in Jain temple heist

He allegedly supplied sedatives to the main accused.

A pharmaceutical company employee in Tamil Nadu has been arrested for allegedly supplying sedatives to the main accused in the sensational Rs 1-crore heist at a Jain temple in Cottonpet,Bangalore,on October 19. The police said some security guards at the temple carried out the robbery with the help of a gang from Nepal. They mixed the sedatives in the food of other security guards and rendered them unconscious.

The arrest of Sher Bahaddur Jatar (35),also a Nepal native and an employee of Microlabs in Hosur, takes the total to seven. The police said he was a friend of the main accused.

They said Jatar knew of drugs that could render people unconscious and used the knowledge to help his friends carry out the robbery. He allegedly brought the sedatives from Hosur for Prakash Bahaddur,a guard at the temple. Prakash mixed the drug in a curry he prepared and served it to other security guards on October 19 night.

He then let in a gang of aides from Nepal.

The police said they seized some tablets from Jatar after his arrest. The tablets have been sent to the forensic science lab (FSL) for analysis.

“These might be sleeping pills. We have sent the tablets to the FSL,” an officer said.

The investigation so far has revealed that Jai Bahaddur Buda, who came to India from Nepal searching for a job, went to Hosur and stayed with Jatar for a few days. He also contacted other friends settled in and around Bangalore, the police said.

While searching for a job,Buda met Bhanu and Prakash Bahaddur, who were security guards at the Jain temple. They planned the robbery and sought help of the others.

The accused, however, could not escape the CCTV cameras at the temple. Mobile call details also gave them away. Four of the accused were arrested from Nepal. Another police team has now gone to Nepal to try and arrest other suspects.

“A team has been rushed to Nepal again to nab two more persons. We have recovered a small part of the stolen property and want to recover the remaining,” a police officer said.
