The construction of 44 bridges Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) and Railway Under Bridges (RUBs) that started in the city over the past year with the aim of easing traffic movement are likely to get delayed. Spot inspections conducted by BBMP and Railway department officials Wednesday revealed only one bridge has been completed so far.
Mayor B S Sathyanarayana pointed out that only the ROB at Kasturinagar near KR Puram has been completed. Work on another 14 bridges is in progress.
Files related to seven bridges are in different stages of processing and survey for construction land is under progress,he said. The estimated cost for 14 bridges is Rs 137 crore,to be shared equally between the BBMP and South Western Railway. Construction work for the remaining 29 bridges will start soon. He added that the RUB at the judicial layout would be completed in one-and-a-half months.
Construction of the Jakkur ROB has been delayed due to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board work and residents have complained they are facing problems because of the delay.
The BBMP would need 2.5 acres of Defence land to construct ROB and service roads on either side of Byappanahalli. Sathyanarayana said that process is currently on.
During Wednesdays inspection, the railway officials and the Mayor had to face the wrath of people protesting against the delays, leading to traffic jams across the city.
