In a revised directive,Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar has granted banks 45 days to install CCTVs and alarms at ATMs in the city. The fresh order issued on Thursday also exempts banks from deploying guards at ATMs at railway stations, bus depots, premises of religious institutions,multi-storey complexes, malls, commercial centres, gated villa communities, registered clubs and other secure places. An earlier order issued on November 20 mandated banks to implement the security measures within three days. But with many banks failing to meet the deadline, over a 1,000 ATMs in the city have been closed down. Auradkar said representatives of Canara,Syndicate,Vijaya,Andhra and State Bank of India met him after a meeting of state-level bankers committee. They promised to post guards at all ATMs by November 16 but sought an extension to the deadline for installing CCTVs and alarms to follow procedures and invite bids.
