The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) Thursday announced that special buses would be operated for three days starting from Friday to Sunday to facilitate passengers heading to their hometowns for the puja holidays.
As per a statement issued by the SETC, the buses will be operated from three major termini in the city, including Tambaram, Poonamallee and Koyambedu. The officials have made the arrangements to decongest the crowd.
As per reports, 2,265 buses will be operated against the usual of 2,100 buses from October 20 to October 22.
From the MEPZ terminus, buses to Tiruvannamalai via Tindivanam would be operated. Buses plying to Polur, Vandavasi, Gingee, Panruti, Neyveli, Chidambaram, Vadalur and Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram via Tindivanam will also begin from the MEPZ terminus.
At the Poonamallee terminus, buses to Vellore, Arni, Arcot, Tirupattur, Kancheepuram, Seiyyaru, Hosur, Tiruttani and those heading to Tirupati will be operated.
Buses to neighbouring Bengaluru and other areas, including Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Ariyalur, Jayamkondam, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Sengottai, Thoothukudi, Tiruchendur, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Karaikudi, Pudukkottai, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tiruppur, Erode, Ooty, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram, Guryvayur among others will be operated from the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Bus Terminus at Koyambedu.
The Transport department has also asked its employees to not take leaves on these days.
Meanwhile, on account of the holidays on October 23 and 24, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced that peak hour Metro train services will be extended till 10 pm on Friday (October 20) and Saturday (October 21) for the convenience of passengers travelling to their hometowns. Between 8 pm and 10 pm, the trains will be operated at a gap of six minutes instead of nine minutes on both the corridors.
