As part of Operation Ajay, launched to evacuate Indian citizens from Israel amid the Israel-Hamas war, 21 Tamil Nadu natives arrived in the state on Friday, the government said in a statement.
Twenty-one people hailing from Coimbatore, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Tiruchirpalli, Theni, Karur, Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Pudukkottai, Kancheepuram and Chennai were brought to New Delhi from Israel. Of them, 14 reached Chennai and seven Coimbatore in the afternoon.
At Chennai airport, Health Minister Ma Subramanian and MP Kalanithi Veerasamy welcomed them and made arrangements for them to reach home.

According to officials of the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils, 114 people from Tamil Nadu who have been stranded in the war-torn West Asian country have contacted them and they are taking quick measures to bring them home as well.
The commissionerate said it had announced helpline numbers and provided details on its website to help the Tamil people stranded in Israel. Details collected from the expats have been shared with the central government as well as the Indian embassy to expedite their evacuation, and WhatsApp groups have been created for better coordination and constant monitoring of the situation, the commissionerate added.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Wednesday in a post on X, “Launching #OperationAjay to facilitate the return from Israel of our citizens who wish to return. Special charter flights and other arrangements being put in place. Fully committed to the safety and well-being of our nationals abroad.”
On Friday, Jaishankar said that 212 Indian citizens were en route to New Delhi.
