Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was acting as a public relations officer for INDIA by talking about the Opposition bloc instead of his own government’s achievements in the past nine years.

“Our prime minister has become the public relations officer of the INDIA bloc by talking about us, instead of his government’s achievements, wherever he goes. We thank our PM Modi for that,” the DMK leader told reporters after the Opposition alliance of 28 parties met in Mumbai.

“In these nine years of the BJP-led government, there are no achievements. Day by day, this government is becoming unpopular and the INDIA bloc is becoming popular. This meeting has not just been satisfying but has become a turning point. The countdown to the end of the BJP government has begun,” he added.

“The Opposition parties from Kashmir to Kanyakumari have come together to protect India’s sovereignty, dignity, secularism and social justice, not for any political gains. We have entered the battlefront to save the country. We seek your support on this,” Stalin said, adding that it was time to end the BJP’s “attempts to impose uniformity in everything”.

The DMK president said the country was under an unprecedented dictatorship. He asked why the prime minister had not commented on the recent CAG findings, adding that the BJP-led government was threatening Opposition parties using central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI.

The bloc had its first meeting in Patna, Bihar, with 19 parties. They met again in Bengaluru, where they named their alliance INDIA. At the Mumbai meeting, Stalin urged the INDIA parties to immediately hammer out a common minimum programme, according to the PTI news agency. He also said it would be the face of the Opposition alliance.

INDIA has formed a 13-member coordination panel of members from all parties and Stalin is one among them.
