Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan Friday reportedly expressed interest in contesting from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat.
In a meeting held at a private hotel in Coimbatore, Haasan also asked party functionaries to prepare for the forthcoming parliamentary polls with an eye on all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and one seat in neighbouring Puducherry.
The MNM leader asked party workers to learn from past electoral lessons and also complete the process of appointing booth committees soon.
Earlier, when Haasan arrived in Coimbatore, he was given a rousing reception by his party cadre.

In 2021, Haasan contested the Coimbatore (South) Assembly constituency and came second. He lost to BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan by a meagre margin. The overall poor performance of his party in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections led to a mass exodus of senior party members.
In 2021, he did not join hands with any major Dravidian party like the DMK or the AIADMK.
However, in the Erode by-poll, which took place earlier this year, Haasan extended his support to DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance candidate EVKS Elangovan. Haasan even campaigned for the senior Congress leader and justified his action by saying that the decision was taken in the national interest. He also actively participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in New Delhi in December 2022.
