A jewellery showroom of the Jos Alukkas was robbed in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore on Tuesday. According to the police, the robbers decamped with 150-200 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the showroom on the 100 Feet Road in Gandhipuram.

A manhunt is on to arrest the accused, the police said.

Addressing the media, V Balakrishnan, Commissioner, Coimbatore City, said, “One person had entered the store between 12.30 am and 1 am. He picked up the jewelleries from random places. The Commissioner also said, “In the surveillance cameras, we can see only one person. The accused seems to be a local person but his behaviour is quite different. He did not wear any mask but was seen covering his face with his shirt in some cameras. As per our initial investigation, we can see that he had entered the store through the ventilator of an air-conditioner. The store had been renovated some time ago and we are trying to ascertain who all worked here during that time.”

The police said that the store has CCTV cameras but does not have an alarm to alert in case of an emergency. Also, it was learnt that there was only one security person for the entire showroom.
