The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Greater Chennai police has arrested a 35-year-old engineer from Andhra Pradesh for making fake educational certificates.
According to the police, Melvin J R Pace, Assistant Regional Security Officer, US Consulate, Chennai, lodged a complaint on November 16 against one S Hemnath (24) of Palnadu district in Andhra Pradesh. Hemanth had reportedly produced fake certificates during an interview to obtain a F-1 student Visa.
A case was registered by the CCB and a probe was initiated.
During the investigation, the police found that the fake documents produced by Hemnath were created by one Haribabu of Eccho Overseas Consultancy in Narasaraopet near Palnadu district.
Based on the directions of Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore, a special team of officials led by Inspector Sheejani was formed to arrest Haribabu from Narasaraopet. The police said Haribabu confessed to the crime and said he has been making fake educational certificates for the past two years.
The police added that Haribabu is a B Tech (EEE) engineer.
The police seized a complete set up of electronic items, including a monitor, a printer, a hard disk, a pen drive scanner, a laptop, mobile phones, three fake certificates, around 50 blank certificate papers and cash worth Rs 2 lakh.
The accused is set to be produced before the court Tuesday.
