AIADMK will lead mega alliance in 2024 polls: senior leader Jayakumar
Regarding the recent Opposition meeting held in Patna, Jayakumar commented that a split seemed more likely as there is a lack of real unity and differences of opinion among the parties involved.

Former Tamil Nadu Minister and senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar declared on Monday that their party would spearhead the mega alliance in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This statement came a day after he mentioned that several parties currently aligned with the DMK alliance would join them.
During an interaction with reporters in Chennai on Monday, Jayakumar said, “AIADMK will lead the alliance in Tamil Nadu. Our party’s welfare is of utmost importance, and we will allocate seats accordingly. We still have 10 months left. A seat-sharing committee will be established, with participation from all alliance parties to determine the constituencies and other factors. Parties will present their proposals, and we will decide whether to accept them or not.”
Regarding the recent Opposition meeting held in Patna, Jayakumar commented that a split seemed more likely as there is a lack of real unity and differences of opinion among the parties involved.
He further alleged that the state’s ‘Amma Unavagam’ (Amma canteens) were in dismal condition, and the ruling government was more focused on renaming schemes initiated during the previous AIADMK government.
“AIADMK can never be destroyed, even for the next 1,000 years. Remember my words. We are a democratic party, not a Zamindar party like the DMK. People are observing this ineffective government, and they will deliver a resounding lesson in the 2024 and 2026 elections,” he said.
Responding to Health Minister Ma Subramanian’s remarks dismissing speculations about Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji’s health condition, Jayakumar said that a minister should provide a more responsible response to queries raised by the public and media.
“It was an irresponsible comment. The current cabinet ministers take everything for granted, and this response is just another example,” he said, adding that officials are conducting a proper investigation, and those found guilty will face consequences.
Regarding the government’s decision to install a statue of former Prime Minister VP Singh at the Presidency College premises, Jayakumar said that Chief Minister MK Stalin lacks the eligibility to erect a statue as they have yet to identify and take action against those responsible for the Vengavayal incident. He also questioned the DMK’s right to discuss social equality.
