Two youths were arrested on Thursday night on charges of attempting to rob a city resident and also attacking two cops,including an SHO,on the road dividing Sectors 43 and 44.
According to the police,Manpreet Singh of Ludhiana and Navjot of Moga introduced themselves as policemen and asked Akhilesh Thakur,a Sector-50 resident,to show his identity card.
As I opened my wallet,they snatched it on knifepoint. I raised an alarm and a police vehicle,patrolling in the area,reached the spot immediately, said Akhilesh.
Station House Officer (SHO),Sector-31 police station,Inspector Anokh Singh and Sector-61 police post in-charge Sub-Inspector (S-I) Baldev Singh got down from the vehicle and chased the youths.
One of the youths inflicted the injuries and tried to escape but they were overpowered and arrested, said police.
The S-I was taken to hospital,where doctors discharged him after administering first aid.
After the arrested youths claimed they were staying as paying guests in Sector 44,the police reached the house,only to discover that the youths had given wrong identities.
Later in the police station,they revealed their real identities, said Inspector Anokh Singh,while adding that a case has been registered against the youths.
