Bollywood blockbuster of yesteryears,Sholay, was re-enacted in Tangori village on Wednesday evening after a youth,in his early 20s,went atop a 100-foot-high tower in an attempt to win over his love.
It was around 7 pm when the villagers spotted Arjun Singh,a Nepali national, atop the tower of high tension power supply.
Sohana Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Jarnail Singh said Arjun was put behind bars after being safely rescued from the highly dangerous installation.
Fortunately, the power supply was off when the distraught lover went up the tower and before supply resumed,he was down, added the SHO.
The youth was calling for his lover, threatening he would kill himself if she refused his proposal, said Head Constable Ashok Kumar, who led the police team to the spot.
After an hour-long persuasion,he came down and was taken in custody, said Kumar, adding that the power supply to the tower was immediately restored.
The youth belongs to Prautan district in Nepal and was staying at Shahimajra village in Mohali, where he fell in love with Anu,also a Nepali national.
Though I had expressed my love for her,she did not accept my proposal, the youth told the police. For the past two days,he has not eaten food, the SHO revealed, adding that Arjun has been booked under Section 309 of the IPC for attempt to suicide.
The youth was sent to jail as nobody turned up for furnishing bail bonds for his release, said the SHO.
