All aspiring Indian scriptwriters now have something to cheer about. They can look forward to two opportunities to gain international grooming. The Mumbai Mantra Media Limited, the media and entertainment division of the Mahindra Group, has collaborated with Sundance Institute, founded by Robert Redford,to organise the first Screenwriters Lab in India. This will be modelled on the Sundance Lab,which is held in Park City,Utah, every year.

Meanwhile,Asia Society India Centre and Time Warner have also announced New Voices

Fellowship for Screenwriter (NVFS),a programme to identify and support a group of six talented independent screenwriters to develop their feature film scripts by working in a dynamic and innovative environment with guidance from eminent filmmakers and screenwriters.

While the Lab will be a five-day workshop in March 2012,the New Voices Fellowship will be launched on July 11,this year. Both these avenues will give screenwriters an opportunity to work intensively on their script with creative advisors, who would be established screenwriters and filmmakers from around the world. The Lab is open for submissions, which is free of cost. After this, the applicants will have at least three more months to send in their complete script. Only six to eight screenwriters will be selected for this workshop.
