The celebration of the World Breastfeeding Week concluded on Wednesday with a talk at the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) in Sector 38. The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Health department of the city observed the World Breastfeeding Week from August 1-7.
The theme for the breastfeeding week this year was Breastfeeding support close to mothers.
The programme highlighted advantages of breastfeeding in creating a bond between the mother and the new-born and also in decreasing child mortality.
According to officials in the Health department,The important issue which needs to be addressed is the importance of colostrum and exclusively breastfeeding the newborn for the first six months.
A talk on breastfeeding was organised for students of Post Graduate Government College of Girls in Sector 42-D in collaboration with NRHM (National Rural Health Mission).
Dr Bhavneet Bharti,Associate Professor at the Advanced Paediatric Centre,PGIMER delivered the talk.
