Workshop held for gynaecologists

While Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla chaired the workshop,Principal Secretary (Health) AR Talwar,NRHM Mission Director Satish Chandra,and Director (Family Welfare) Dr JP Singh were present at the event.

Addressing the doctors,Chawla urged them to make earnest efforts to increase the number of institutional deliveries in government hospitals.

She also emphasised the need to serve poor patients coming from rural areas with compassion.

She said the government was committed to provide better healthcare services by providing adequate staff and infrastructure in centres under NRHM.

The minister said the state government has decided to provide fee treatment in government hospitals to the children studying in government and government-aided schools.

“Proper measures have been taken to check the sale of adulterated food items like synthetic milk and paneer,” she said.

According to Chandra,NRHM is trying to reduce maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR).

He said compared to 44,451 institutional deliveries in 2007-08,the number increased to 66,451 in 2008-09.

Similarly,the number of beneficiaries under Janani Suraksha Yojna increased from 29,256 to 67,911.
