The mobile phone has now gone multilingual
While the reach of mobile phones has extended across all age groups and strata of the society, what was left to be done was to facilitate it so that everyone is able to use it conveniently. The gap has been filled with phones with multilingual options, says Ajay Mehta, managing director,MCC Group,as he shows us the latest mobile phone model Jumbo i9 that has a Hindi option. Lava Mobiles, meanwhile, has launched KKT-15 plus that is loaded with 12 languages Hindi,Marathi,Bengali,Tamil,Punjabi,Telugu,Gujarati,Kannada,Urdu,Malayalam,Oriya and Assamese. This has been launched for those who feel comfortable communicating in their own language, says Sunil Raina, product head,LAVA International. Users can have the display in a regional language, with Hindi and English inputs, adds Raina.
The handset will enable customers to communicate in a language they are comfortable with, says Ranjit Yadav, director, mobile and IT,Samsung Electronics,as he shows Samsung Star Duos, that has an inbuilt multi-language dictionary, which comes with the support for nine regional languages. The Guru series also has regional languages and mobile prayers in regional languages, he says. While Nokias latest Nokia C3-00 allows messaging in English and Hindi, the upgraded version will reportedly have Tamil,Telugu,Kannada and Bengali options.
Meanwhile, operators too are facilitating ease while talking. Idea has launched a helpline to facilitate day-to-day conversation in 16 languages. One needs to call on 9814012345 for conversational support. Anyone who needs to communicate with people talking in different languages can avail this unique service from Idea. The caller needs to verbalise his message and the same will be translated by the Idea helpline agent instantly on the phone, says Anupama Ahluwalia, senior vice president, marketing,Idea Cellular.
