An eyewitness told reporters, “Two men came on a bike near Aarti Chowk. The pillion rider was holding the sack. When they dumped the sack on the roadside, I questioned what was inside. They said mangoes. Later, they claimed there was a dead dog inside. I asked them to pick it up, but they said that they would do it after a few minutes. As they started their bike to flee, I snatched the bike’s keys. But they fled, leaving the bike behind. We called the police, and a woman’s body was found inside.”
As locals alerted police, a team visited the spot and opened the sack, finding the body inside.
Division Number 8 police station SHO Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh said, “The victim appears to be in her early 30s. Blood clots outside her nostrils suggest she might have been strangled to death. She appears to be a migrant. A probe has been initiated.”
The SHO said that they sent the body for an autopsy and were scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused persons. “We impounded the motorcycle the duo left behind. It carries a fake registration number. We are registering an FIR accordingly,” he said.
