With just a week left for the student elections to begin, the city bars and lounges, including Blue Ice in Sector 17 and Crystal in Sector 26 are busy booking the free entry parties being organised by prospective candidates of the college parties. With party posters, stickers on vehicles, corridor campaigning, online campaigning, freebies in the canteens, the college campuses are finally into election mode. The college parties are going all out to woo voters, especially the freshers by organising parties. While PUSU at SD College has planned to throw a freshers party at the Blue Ice resto bar,the PUSU at the DAV College organised a freshers party,on Tuesday,at Crystal bar and louge for the BA and BSc department of the college. These parties, which attract many students, have no entry fees and the snacks provided inside are free as well. PUSU representative from SD college,Shanky Mittal said,Its been a month now after the new academic session began and the freshers are waiting for a party. The parties we are holding are meant for the freshers. We have not asked them for any money. They are free to enjoy all the snacks available. It was reported there would be free booze available at the party but the student organisations claim these were rumours. There are rumours that PUSU is throwing a free booze party but there is nothing like that. The freshers party will be alcohol-free, Mittal added. Blue Ice coordinator,Sam,which PUSU has booked for a party on August 30,claimed there will be no alcohol at the party booked by the SD college. We have a proper license which says youngsters below the age of 25 are not allowed to drink,he added. Meanwhile,DAV college PUSU representative Dolly Bhakhuni said, The freshers party is nothing to do with free booze. We organised a party on Tuesday for two departments namely,BA and BSC and throwing another freshers party on August 29 for rest of the departments , she added.
