Untold theories about Rathore,his registration number
The news item in ‘Chandigarh Newsline’ about convict and former DGP of Haryana SPS Rathore shelling out a heavy sum to buy a special number for his wife’s Mercedes was interesting. However,three important aspects were missing from the report. As a reader I was interested to know how a convict was at large,and whether he was acquitted or released on bail under the Juveniles Offenders’ Act. Secondly,from where did he get so much money. Spending Rs 9 lakh for a fancy registration number of a car is not a joke. Thirdly,since he (and,presumably,his wife) are residents of Panchkula,how did they get the car registered in Chandigarh?

Heritage festival: a damp squib
The Chandigarh Arts and Heritage Festival that concluded on Saturday appeared to lack the rigour of a festival,due to poor turn out. Perhaps the festival was scheduled at a wrong time when most students were busy with their examinations. Almost all the activities were held in the northern parts making it inconvenient for people from the south of the city.

Rathore shows off his riches
due to feeble legal system
It was shocking to see the Ruchika molester,SPS Rathore,show off his ill-gotten riches by getting a VVIP number for his wife’s Mercedes. Due to our feeble legal system,a culprit,has been flaunting his money and makes it to the main pages of newspapers,causing disgust and distress to the victim’s family and friends. The fault also lies with society. Culprits like Rathore must be socially boycotted. It would give them some sense of guilt and act as a deterrent for others.

Need to check problem of
alcoholism among youngsters
It is disheartening to see youngsters taking to alcohol. The recent incident of three school girls getting drunk has brought shame to the City Beautiful. Children get carried away by advertisements of alcohol and use of alcohol in Bollywood,following which they tend to try these things out of curiosity. Campaigns must be carried out across schools and colleges to educate youngsters about the ill-effects of alcohol and help save young lives. While there may not be a simple solution to the issue of alcoholism,but there are measures that can make a difference. The most important aspect is to identify the root cause of such behaviour and encourage inclusive and multi-stakeholder participation in finding possible and practical solutions to raise awareness about irresponsible drinking behaviour. Also,parents must keep a check on their childrens activities and talk to them if they suspect anything wrong in their behaviour.

Irresponsible driving on Panchkula-Zirakpur flyover cause for concern
It is a matter of great concern for everybody that motorists passing through the under-passages at Panchkula-Zirakpur flyover jump the red signal,causing risk to themselves as well as others. It might lead to various accidents. The Panchkula police must ensure that traffic flows properly through the under-passes and people abide by traffic norms.

Corporation authorities must
ensure cleanliness of park
Some of the residents of Sector 37-D take initiative to take care of the local park set up by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. But most people do not care about it and dispose their household garbage in the park leading to spread of various diseases such as malaria and hepatitis-B. Some boys play cricket and football,and break windowpanes of adjacent houses. A few others get their pet dogs to the park for a stroll,but don’t bother to clean the place whether their dogs defecate. At night,people drink in the park and leave behind bottles. Officials concerned must make efforts to build a boundary with gates for entrance to the park.
