After his son Vikramaditya Singh won the state youth Congress polls,Union Minister Virbhadra Singh on Sunday secured another major political victory over his detractors, within his party, after the sitting National Students Union of India (NSUI) president,Yadupati Thakur,a staunch Virbhadra loyalist, retained his post by winning the student body polls.

Yadupati ,who was a part of Vikramaditya’s election campaign earlier this month, defeated Sandeep Walia by a margin of 150 votes. This is the first time elections have been held for the posts of State Youth Congress president and the NSUI in the state in accordance with AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s plans to democratise the party’s two youth wings.

Virbhadra Singh has been making concerted efforts to make his presence felt in the state’s political circles despite his detractors trying to marginalise him. He has been accusing the state’s Congress leaders of soft-peddling the BJP government. The union minister, however, has been campaigning in Renuka assembly constituency for the Congress and was joined by a former BJP MLA from the constituency at the rally. Virbhadra will campaign in Nalagarh for the next two days while Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal launched his party’s campaign in Renuka on Sunday.

Addressing a series of poll meetings ,Dhumal said Renuka being represented by the Congress for a long period has remain neglected. It’s the first time that electorates of the Sirmaur particularly Renuka segment are showing a change in the mood so that they don’t feel deprived of massive development in the state,Dhumal added. He accused the Congress of making false promises to voters and misleading them with a propaganda on corruption.
