In order to attain effective prevention of vector and water borne disease outbreak,a meeting was convened by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme and Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme Unit,under the chairmanship of the Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Health on Tuesday.
The primary focus of the meeting was on the role of non health sectors for prevention and control of vector and water borne diseases.
The Health Secretary emphasized on better community participation and enhanced IEC activities as pivotal for decline in malaria and other vector borne diseases. Mass awareness and sensitization of school children towards vector borne diseases was also discussed during the meeting. The Secretary Health was also briefed about the mass production of larvivorious fishes for biological control of vector borne disease.
Special focus on sanitation facilities in vulnerable areas,awareness among daily wage employees at Project and Construction sites was put forward and steps to safe guard the health of community at large were discussed.
Issue of notices and strict action against defaulters for causing mosquitogenic situation anywhere in the city was discussed and coordinated action with various departments for effective implementation of the same was requested and emphasized by Health Secretary Chandigarh.
The HODs,representatives / officials of various departments of Chandigarh Administration as Director Health and Family Welfare,Public Health-MC,Engineering Department,Social Welfare,Rural Development,Medical Officer of Health-MC,Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and School Health Programme were present.
