HITTING OUT at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab for “letting gangsters have a free run”, Balkaur Singh, father of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala, on Sunday drew a comparison between Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and said that the day was not far when the people of Punjab “would be forced to vote in the name of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.”
He was speaking at a function in Mansa to mark the first death anniversary of his son. However, he also hit out at the BJP-led Centre and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for “failing” to trace the “masterminds” of his son’s murder. He also urged the gathering to raise slogans against the AAP and BJP governments in Punjab and the Centre respectively.
Referring to Adityanath, he said: “I was an ordinary man.. so these gangsters dared to reach my home and kill my son. Can they dare to touch someone else like this? Our governments are too weak to do anything. We are remembering [UP CM] Yogi today. It is my guarantee that in the coming Lok Sabha elections, you will be forced to vote in the name of Yogi. You will say UP is cleaner, what happened to us (Punjab)? What is the path we have taken… Who is responsible for killings like that of my son? Register a murder case and justice is done?”
Singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29 last year, and police had named Lawrence Bishnoi as the prime accused along with two other gangsters — Goldy Brar and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.
Raising slogans against the AAP governmentin Punjab, Balkaur Singh asked why no courts were now taking suo motu cognizance of [gangster] Lawrence Bishnoi’s interviews from inside jail even as he has allegedly threatened to kill actor Salman Khan. Moosewala’s mother Charan Kaur said that it was unfortunate that the Punjab government turned a blind eye to “gangsters who continue to be active although they are behind bars.”
