Two jailed for murdering 28-year-old over Rs 30

Two residents of Mansa Devi Complex-Sanjay Kumar and Baba Subhash-were sentenced to imprisonment of ten and two years’ respectively after they were found guilty of murdering Raju,a painter,on January 1,2008.

Fifty-year-old Baba Subhash and 30-year-old Sanjay Kumar,both residents of hutments in Mansa Devi Complex were arrested after they were found to be involved in the murder of 28-year-old painter. Raju was found brutally murdered early in the morning on January 1 on the Saketri road in the complex.

“While Baba Subhash has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000,the other accused Sanjay Kumar has been given ten years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000 by additional district and sessions judge Sanjeev Jindal,” said public prosecutor N K Goyal.

Interestingly,the murder was committed over Rs 30. “The three of them — Subhash,Raju and Sanjay were celebrating on New Year’s eve by drinking and gambling. Raju won an extra Rs 30 over which he and Sanjay entered into a scuffle. Sanjay then hit Raju with a wooden rod on his head,injuring him seriously,” said a police officer. He added that Baba Rs 30 from Raju’s pocket and then both the accused dumped the injured Raju behind the hutment where Baba stayed and went to sleep.

“Seriously injured,Raju was lying without first aid throughout the night which caused his death. The police was informed by some locals in the morning,” added the police officer. The two of them were booked under Section 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
