The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cleared the name of 2012 batch Haryana cadre IPS officer, Sumer Pratap Singh, for a three-year deputation in Chandigarh. Singh is currently posted as Panchkula DCP and will join the Chandigarh Police as SSP (Traffic & Security) this week. The orders were issued on Saturday. He was among three IPS officers whose names were sent to MHA.

The post of SSP (Traffic and Security) had been lying vacant since November 30 last year when former SSP (Traffic) Manisha Chaudhary had relinquished the charge on November 30, 2023.

The order stated, “The appointments committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs for inter-cadre deputation of the officer to AGMUT cadre in Chandigarh.”

For Tricity, the overgrowing traffic is a problem as it has increased manifold. So will be using technology to solve this problem.”

The IPS officer added, “Traffic is a combination of three Es — enforcement, education and engineering. All of it will go hand in hand, it is not just enforcement but people will be educated too.”

The officer said, “Definitely enforcement is going to be strict for which Chandigarh is known. We will try to continue it. Motivating people and encouraging them to follow traffic rules will be my priority.”

The officer joined as Panchkula DCP in 2022. He is yet to be relieved.
