Three dead as bus rolls down gorge

Three persons died while 37 were injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus fell down a 300-feet gorge around 4.30 am on Tuesday.

Three persons died while 37 were injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus fell down a 300-feet gorge around 4.30 am on Tuesday. The bus with the registration number HP-64-0744 was on its way to Malokhar,Dalraghat from Delhi.

Only one of the deceased has been identified as Khem Singh of Kunihar.

A woman who died on the way to the hospital and another person who was crushed under the bus are yet to be identified. The bus had to be lifted with the help of a crane.

Twelve persons,who were seriously injured,were referred to GMCH-32,Chandigarh. Five injured persons are undergoing treatment in ESI Hospital,Parwanoo.

Solan Superintendent of Police Prem Thakur and Deputy Commissioner Amar Singh Rathore reached the spot around 7 am and inspected the rescue operations.

Kasauli tehsildar Yoginder Sain distributed Rs 15,000 to the relatives of the deceased,Rs 10,000 to the seriously injured and Rs 5,000 to those who suffered minor injuries.

A case has been registered against Jiya Lal,driver of the bus for negligent driving under Sections 279,337,338 and 304A of the IPC. Lal is also seriously injured and admitted at GMCH,Chandigarh.
