The IAS coaching institute at the Panjab University campus does not have any record of the students, who clear preliminary or mains exam after taking coaching from the centre.

Prof Manju Jaidka,Director of the centre, said: “There are no records. I joined only in December and have no clue of the records before that. We will be keep records from this session but there is nothing for the previous years.”

Prof R C Sobti,Vice-Chancellor Panjab University, said,“The director cannot give such an excuse and if the data is not available they should look for it. I will take up the issue.”

The centre gives coaching to students preparing for the IAS preliminary exam and though the seats for coaching go full every year, mere six-seven students clear the exam.

The condition at the centre seems to be deteriorating over the time. It was set up in 1997 and also used to give coaching for mains exam then, which was discontinued in 2000.

“For preparing mains exam, one needs a study group and with not many clearing the preliminary exam from our centre,we stopped the coaching,” said a faculty member. The centre also used to give UGC training, which was also discontinued by the university.

Sobti said an advisory committee has been formed to improve the functioning of the centre. “A committee meeting is scheduled for the second week of October and then we will finalise reform plans for the centre,” the V-C added.
