After the infamous PPSC scam involving the former chairman Ravi Inder Sidhu came to light, the high court had dismissed all the selections of PCS (executive and judicial) made during his tenure. This was challenged in the Supreme Court, which had remanded the case back to the high court asking it to separate the tainted from the non-tainted. A divergent view was given by a committee of three judges on the administrative side. The dissenting opinion was set aside by a three-judge bench of the court ordering reinstatement of the non-tainted officers. This was upheld by the Supreme Court. The dispute pertaining to selection of the PCS (judicial) stands resolved. On the basis of this judgment,PCS (executive) had moved the court asking for reinstatement. It was the bunch of petitions filed by these officers, which had come up for hearing on Friday.
