For quite some time, local tennis star Fatehdeep Singh had been waiting in the wings ready to explode on the big scene and show the world where he belongs.
Fifteen-year-old Fatehdeep, who stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, has already taken a giant stride towards his goal a dream which he has been harbouring ever since he took to the sport he has been drafted into the Indian Junior Davis Cup team (under 16). Nothing beats the feeling when you are on the court and people are screaming and cheering you. It will be a dream come true to represent the country again, chuckled Fatehdeep,a student at DAV Model School in Sector 15.
Though he is not new to playing in front of both locaI and foreign faces he had played against some of he best in the business in the IC Junior Challenge last year the sheer pressure of playing for India and performing to his fullest capabilities in front of the prying eyes of selectors is something which he feels he will learn to tackle with more international tournaments in his kitty.
All day long, you slug on the court looking to perfect your game. You miss family functions and the sweet moments with your friends because you want to make it big. You have to sacrifice spending time with your family,as you are constantly on the move playing tournaments. All your sacrifices should produce a result. That is all I am aiming for, said Fatehdeep, who cites Adidas Nationals (Under-14) Tournament at Chennai last year 00 the title that he won as the turning point of his life.
As one of the top-three ranked player in the Under-16 category,Fatehdeep, along with Shaik Abdullah and Garvit Batra, will form the Indian Davis Cup junior team. Apart from routine workout and practice sessions,I regularly meditate to keep my mind fresh, he said.
Before the Davis Cup at DLTA on April 18,Fatehdeep will attend a camp at National Tennis Academy on April 16. Though he will be busy in action in the ITF Juniors Grade IV Tennis Tournament in Indore,Fatehdeep said he will make sure he does not miss the cricket World Cup semi-final match between India and pakistan to be played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. I wont be here at that time, but will catch the action on TV. I want India to win the World Cup, said Fatehdeep,a big fan of Yuvraj Singh.
