The crime branch of Mohali police on Sunday arrested one person with 55 kg poppy husk worth Rs 55,000. During the investigation,the accused named an official of the Chandigarh Police for whom he was regularly ferrying poppy husk.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that Kuldeep Singh was arrested at a naka. Kuldeep is a taxi driver. He had come in contact with a UT Police official,Jung Singh who is a constable,three years back. Jung then asked Kuldeep to take his advice if he wanted to make some extra money from his taxi service.
Jung allegedly asked Kuldeep to smuggle poppy husk from Rajasthan for him. For each trip,Kuldeep was paid Rs 10,000 by Jung. With the help of Chandigarh Police,the Sector 7 residence of Jung was raided but the police claimed that he was not at home. As per the police,Jung is currently posted in Crime Branch of UT Police.
Kuldeep has been arrested under various sections of the NDPS Act by Balongi Police Station. As per the police,Jung owns a godown in Krishna Enclave,Khanpur,where he keeps poppy husk which is allegedly smuggled from Rajasthan.
