Tax officials remand extended

Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner Geeta Singh,who was arrested on Friday on charges of accepting a bribe in the form of Rs one lakh in cash has been remanded to further police custody till February 21.

Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner Geeta Singh,who was arrested on Friday on charges of accepting a bribe in the form of Rs one lakh in cash has been remanded to further police custody till February 21. Meanwhile,principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya (ITBP) Bonda,Sarahan Sudha Gupta,who was arrested by the state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,820 has been sent to judicial custody till Feburary 25,said a spokeman of the Vigilance Wing of the police.

Sources said that though top excise officials had information on the case against Geeta Singh,she continued to enjoy the patronage of the department till the State vigilance bureau collected specific details about her illegal dealings with businessmen.
