Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) J S Sidhu has directed Surinder Kaur,wife of Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal,and Harsimrat Kaur,wife of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal,to appear before the court on May 4 to record their statements in a recovery suit. The notices relate to an ongoing recovery suit,involving an amount of Rs 82,000,filed by former additional director,Information and Public Relations department,Punjab Jagdip Singh Chowhan against the CM and Sukhbir in 2001.

In his petition,Chowhan stated in 1998 Badal asked him to undertake the publicity campaign of his son,who was contesting the parliamentary elections from the Faridkot that year. Chowhan claims he spent Rs 1,50,450,of which he paid Rs 69,997 from his own pocket,for the purpose.
