“In summer,we spend our parents’ money to join a camp,do holiday homework or remain glued to the idiot box. We thought of doing something productive so we pooled some books and opened a library of our own,” says Ankit Kothari. The collection includes fiction,thrillers,magazines and text books and is being run from one of the member’s room.

“Summer vacation should be a time to earn some pocket money instead of just idling around. We have kept all types of books to cater to the needs of readers,” he adds,while Aastha,another member,nods in agreement.

The books are being lent at the rate of Rs. 10 for three days and the summer library runs from 9 am to 6 pm. “We are very happy that our kids have come up with interesting and constructive ideas this summer. It helps increase their knowledge,develop a reading habit and earn their pocket money. In this age of tough competition,they must know how to be independent and appreciate the value of money,” says Rajiv Aggarwal,a parent.

Ashish Bama enjoys being a guide that helps him earn while being engaged in an interesting pursuit. Guiding tourists and showing them around Chandigarh,the city he loves,Bama enjoys his summer job. “I am fond of travelling and that’s the reason I chose to be a guide,” he says. “I charge Rs 500 per assignment,have splashed my contact number in newspapers and have landed five assignments till now,” he adds.
