Repotedly under depression,a 43-year-old UT police constable,Gurdial Singh, committed suicide in the wee hours of Sunday by shooting himself with his service revolver near a petrol pump in Sector 28. Gurdial was attached to the police control room.

The exact reason of Singh’s suicide is not yet known. However, his family and fellow police officers said that Gurdial took this step because he was suffering from work tension and stress.

Two lady constables were inside the PCR gypsy when Gurdial stepped out and shot himself with his service revolver. According to police sources,Gurdial was facing a departmental enquiry in a case registered against him. Survived by his wife,Gurdial had no child.

Gurdial’s widow has claimed that her husband could not have committed suicide and will submit a complaint to police authorities to probe her husband’s death. She has alleged that it was work stress which claimed Gurdial’s life.

Sources also revealed that Gurdial was depressed because he did not have a child. However, his family members denied this as a reason behind Gurdial’s suicide. Gurdial’s body was handed over to the family after conducting the post mortem.
