Stadium is not where all the action is; options beyond the boundary too

Restaurants, hotels and lounges in the city are playing all possible strokes in a bid to encash the IPL fever. From live screening of matches, special ‘cricket menus’,huge cut-outs,and waiters sporting team jerseys — primarily of the home team,it’s all there.

Restaurants, hotels and lounges in the city are playing all possible strokes in a bid to encash the IPL fever. From live screening of matches, special ‘cricket menus’,huge cut-outs,and waiters sporting team jerseys — primarily of the home team,it’s all there.

“Since it is not possible for everyone to be at the stadium to see the match,we have put big screens in our lounge and have revised our menus for the cricket lovers. There will be special offers on drinks and food too. Our décor theme for the full season would be IPL,” says Mohan Singh Negi, manager of Zinc in Sector 26.

Menus have been revised and are full of cricket jargon. Hotel Mountview is offering Fish Tikka Square Cut,Chicken LBW and Chicken Tikka Sixer, while Zinc is offering Maiden Over with Tangy Lamb,Make Centuries with Kebab Platter,Strike a Googly with the Zinc Martini.

Voodoo in Sector 26 has set up high definition screens for the IPL and even has stalls selling tickets inside the restaurant. Senior manager Kuldeep says,on match days, they would also offer free IPL merchandise to anyone who successfully predicts a sixer.

Metro and Khyber in Sector 35,too,have projectors set up and special gifts wrapped. Huge screens have also been put up at Score in Sector 8.

Multiplexes are also gearing up to screen the T20 tournament live. DT,PVR,Fame and Fun Cinemas have made arrangements. “We are giving free gifts to the first 50 ticket buyers. Twenty-five per cent discount would be offered on our food combo,” says an official at DT.

“Instead of wasting time standing in queues for tickets at the stadium under a scorching sun,I would rather go to a lounge with my friends and enjoy the match with good food and music,” says Sachin,a diehard fan of his namesake.
