Teaming up together,Rajiv Mahajan and Pankaj Mittal scored an easy 21-11,21-17 win over Tejinder Singh and S.P. Singh in the semi-final match of the +35 category of the 1st Chandigarh Badminton Club Championships held on Saturday.

Rajiv-Pankaj duo enter +35 category final
Teaming up together,Rajiv Mahajan and Pankaj Mittal scored an easy 21-11,21-17 win over Tejinder Singh and S.P. Singh in the semi-final match of the +35 category of the 1st Chandigarh Badminton Club Championships held on Saturday. In another semi-final match,Rajneesh Bhatia and Gurpreet Singh recorded win over Manmohan Sharma and Haroon. In +45 Veterans category,Sanjay Judge and P.J. Arora prevailed over V.P. Singh and Devinder 21-9,18-21,21-19. In +35 Lucky Draw category,Pankaj Mittal paired with S.P. Singh to defeat Vijay Pandit and Sanjay Sharma 21-17,18-21,21-13 to enter final. They will meet Rajneesh Bhatia and Devinder Singh who defeated Rajiv Mahajan and Rajneesh Sood 9-21,21-14,21-16.

Chandigarh Academy eves enter semis
Chandigarh Academy has entered into the semi-finals of the All-India Women’s Hockey tournament in Bhopal,defeating SAI 2-1 in a tight match last night. Central Railway played a 2-2 draw with Haryana XI in another match. Chandigarh Academy got its first goal in the 15th minute through Lily Chanu who scored off a reverse shot. SAI XI captain got the equaliser for her side in the 24th minute when she converted a penalty corner. Three minutes before the final whistle,Chandigarh Academy took its lead to 2-1 when Avantika Yadav scored a brilliant field goal. In the second match,Harmanjeet Kaur scored the first goal for Haryana XI in the eighth minute through a penalty corner. Four minutes later,Kanti Lakra got the equaliser for Central Railway through a field goal. In the second half,Pratibha Sawant of Central Railway scored in the 48th minute through a penalty corner but five minutes later,Preetam Siwach converted a penalty corner for Haryana XI to make the score two all.

Brig Kuldip nominated Sports Council member
Brig Kuldip Singh Chandpuri,MVC,VSM,has been nominated a member of the Sports Council by the advisor to the Administrator and President,Chandigarh Sports Council. Brig Chandpuri is president of the Chandigarh Athletics Association and is associated with sports for the last four decades. He has represented India as an International Technical Official in the Asian,Commonwealth Games and World Athletics Championships abroad. He is also associated with the conduct of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

British School eves emerge champion
PANCHKULA: The British School,Panchkula girls were announced the champions in girls’ category with 37 points on the concluding day of the Sub-Junior,Junior,Senior (Boys and Girls) District Sqay Championship held at the school premises. The Gururkul,Sector 26 boys netted 50 points to finish as the best boys team. Little Flower Convent School collected 29 points to emerge runners-up in girls’ category,while British School boys were second with 42 points.

Golf camp from May 4
Chandigarh Golf Club Academy will conduct a 4-day beginner golf camp at its premises from May 4 to 7. The EGTF programme is designed for the juniors who are new to the game and want to learn the basics. The 4 -day clinic ,to be held between 4 to 5pm for children between 10 to 16 years, will work on the fundamentals of the golf swing,as well as etiquette,terminology and the rules. The set-up,i.e. grip,aim,alignment,stance,posture and putting will be the specific area of teaching. Non- members of Chandigarh Golf Club can join the camp and several schools in Chandigarh like Carmel Convent,St. John’s,Sacred Heart,St. Anne’s,St. Xavier’s,St. Stephen’s,Vivek High,Delhi Public School and St. Peter’s have been sent information regarding this golf camp. St Xavier’s Mohali declared best team
St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School,Mohali were declared winners during the Memory Marathon organised by St Xavier’s School,Panchkula on April 23 and 24. St Xavier’s Panchkula emerged as runners-up,while Delhi Public School,Pinjore was the next best team. The competition was conducted in ten disciplines – pyramid,video game,Sports,movie spoof,news reading,collage making,poetry,mere gali-muhalle ki khabar.
