SOPU celebrates founders day,15 years on campus

The Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) celebrated fifteen years of its existence at the students centre in Panjab University on Friday. It was a low-key celebration with a cake-cutting ceremony by all former party presidents followed by shouting of slogans to support the party and singing of the SOPU song. Due to code of conduct enforced after declaring the date for University elections,permissions for the gathering had been sought earlier.

All the former as well as current presidents had gathered in the premises to celebrate the occasion despite clear instructions from the Dean Students Welfare,that no outsiders will be allowed in the campus during the elections. However,the party issued a clarification stating that the function was held peacefully with the permission of the required authorities. Due to code of conduct no formal addressing was done by the former student leaders and SOPU strictly followed the Lyngdho Committee recommendation. We are clarifying that these leaders were not here for campaigning. It was a pre-planned event and it should not be associated with students elections,read the clarification statement.
