Six die in separate incidents in Mohali

Six persons died in separate incidents in different parts of Mohali district during the last 24 hours,the police said on Saturday.

Six persons died in separate incidents in different parts of Mohali district during the last 24 hours,the police said on Saturday. A father-son duo died in a road accident on the Kharar-Ludhiana National Highway-95,near Mamoopur village,late on Friday evening.

While Raghbeer Singh of Cholta Kalan village died on the spot,his son Gurvinder Singh succumbed to his injuries at Chandigarh PGIMER on Saturday.

They were on their way to Morinda,when a jeep from the opposite direction collided head-on with their motorcycle. The police have booked the jeep driver.

In another mishap,Karam Singh of Machhipur village died when his tractor collided head-on with a speeding car on the Kharar-Ludhiana National Highway-95,near Gharuan village,on Saturday.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital,where he was declared dead on arrival.

The car driver,who is absconding,was booked for causing death by rash and negligent driving.

A 40-year-old driver Ram Paltan,a native of Pratapur in Uttar Pradesh,was found hanging from the shed of a tempo drivers’ union near PTL Chowk in Industrial Area,Phase I here on Saturday morning.

The police have shifted the body to the Civil Hospital mortuary and informed his parents. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The police have initiated inquest proceedings.

In another incident,a Nepali national,Suresh Singh (45) allegedly committed suicide by slaying himself with a sharp knife at Saini Vihar in Baltana,near Zirakpur,on Saturday.

His son,Vinod Kumar,told the police that his father took the extreme step on Saturday morning,following which he was rushed to Government Hospital,Sector 6,Panchkula,where he was declared dead on arrival.

Vinod told the police that his father had lost his mental balance after meeting with an accident a few years ago.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his son after conducting the postmortem and investigations were in progress,the police said.

An unidentified body was found lying at the Bhabat godown area in Zirakpur on Friday evening. The police shifted the body to Civil Hospital in Dera Bassi,where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations revealed the deceased died due to intense cold conditions. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC and kept the body at the Civil Hospital,Dera Bassi,mortuary for identification.

Two die,4 injured in road accidents

AMBALA: Two persons,including a woman,died and four others were critically injured in separate road accidents on Saturday. Gurnamo Devi,resident of Dukheri village,died when a three-wheeler,in which she was travelling,was hit by a tractor trailer. She died on the spot. The three injured were admitted to the hospital. The tractor driver managed to escape. In the second incident,a labourer pasting a poster on a hoarding was electrocuted by the overhead high tension wire. The man died on way to PGI,Chandigarh. In another accident on the Dukheri road near Mohra village,a bike-borne youth was injured when hit by a dumper. He was referred to the PGI.
