The murder came to light in 2015, three years after Sheena was allegedly strangled in a car by her mother with the help of Indrani's former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai in April 2012.
IN THE Sheena Bora ‘murder’ case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday informed a special court that the bones and remains allegedly of the victim were not missing, but were traced to a record room. The CBI had last month told the court that the remains were not traceable, during the deposition of a witness, a forensic expert.
Special public prosecutor C J Nandode told the court on Wednesday that they had searched for the articles and found them in the malkhana or the office record room. The prosecutor also told the court that the remains were not cited in the chargesheet and the CBI wants to proceed with the trial without relying on them as evidence.
The issue of the whereabouts of the articles came up as the forensic expert, a doctor from state-run J J Hospital, was deposing before the court. She had first examined the bones recovered first by the Pen police in Raigad district, from a spot where Bora’s burnt body was allegedly buried by the accused.
The CBI alleges that Bora was strangled in a car in a lane in Bandra on April 24, 2012, by her mother, former media executive, Indrani Mukerjea, along with her former husband and co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and her then driver, Shyamvar Rai.
Mukerjea in her defence has disputed the claim that the remains claimed to be those of Sheena are her daughter’s. She is currently on bail.
So far, 91 witnesses have deposed in the case.
